Hi all,

I've been struggling to keep the system time from drifting. The hardware clock seems to work fine but the system time seems to run twice as fast. I've installed ntp update tool and now I'm updating the clock every hour but I'm pretty sure there is a way to correct this problem. I was just wondering if there is anyone else who has experienced this and if there is a solution. I'm trying to keep my call records and voicemails in order and this time thing messes everything up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bests,
Al

Install an ntpd service, it'll sync your system clock to a ntp time source, learn and model your systems clock drift and compensate automatically.

apt-get install ntpd from the command line I think.

Google "Setup NTP on debian" for more detailed information Smiley

Thanks Greg. I've already have NTP set up and I'm syncing system clock with my ntp source every hour. But within the hour I get a drift of about 10 minutes. I was doing more research and I found the following thread if anyone is interested http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=2002. It seems that it is suggested to use kernel 2.6.32 which is patched for the new SheevaPlugs. I'm guessing from Greg's previous post, however, that this will break some of the components (DAHDI?). I'm new to this stuff so I'm not quite sure what all the repercussions are.

Regards,
Al

Well that's interesting. I would bet perhaps this occurs on the newer hardware builds of the SheevaPlug. Perhaps the same newer revision shares this and the Serial Console bug that newer Linux Kernels Fix?

Well that's two reasons to upgrade the kernel in the next build Wink

Munin will chart ntp clock drift visually as well, so users of a sheevaplug with a working serial console can quickly check if their clock is drifting a great deal or not, feel free to post your munin ntp drift charts here.

(on a side note, I'm likely axing munin - I only included it as a quick way of tracking workload and memory leaks, I'm satisfied enough to not bother cluttering the ram disk in the next release with it. )

The hardware on the newer plugs are different and therefore require an updated kernel. Please see the following link:
