half an hour after my first post above I started to analyze, why plugpbx is sending a lot of DNS requests when my power supply said good-bye to me.

I am not alone with this problem ... please read the link below , I think, it is important ... not only for keeping WAF high;-)

http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=1318.0.

anyway I like this idea to have voip pbx on plug and had already working installation... for a liitle bit of time :-( I hope, I will fix it and will have my plugpbx back.

Regards

So have you confirmed it is the power supply that went?  Have you tried connected a 5v alternate power supply to see if it powers up?

I know there are some on the PlugComputer forums that have speculated there is a higher fail rate on units running on 220v vs Morth American units running at 120v. There is further speculation that the power supply is not as good as it could be.

Myself I've only been running units for about 7 months or so. Its new territory, and the verdict is still out long term.

I do know that you should never EVER power external devices with it, the power supply is NOT rated for it, so do no directly connect 2.5" USB HD's, always run devices via a powered hub. The only thing on my devices is the SD card.

Keep us posted and keep active on the PlugComputer.org site in the meantime - we're all curious. I know several companies manufacture the SheevaPlug, I wonder if some will emerge as better than others perhaps?

Update:
I just received an email from Global Scale saying they are going to offer people with busted power supplies that are out of warranty replacements for $10 + S&H.

Perhaps email your vendor to see if a replacement Power Supply is available. It looks like they have issues with the power-supply, any units that blow up come back with alternate power sources, so lets see how its resolved long term (hopefully recall/replacements on the PS)

Thanks PlugPBX Admin for tips,

yep this box was at 220 V, I never connected another devices except SD card und USB-stick (I read Your advise;-).I have the same symptoms: starting with blinking
the green LED on the top and both NIC LEDs pulsing in sync, about twice a second so I suppose this is the same issue as decribed in forum. I am going to measuring the power input to the SheevaPlug motherboard and hope to get finally verification

I bought my plug 1 year ago but first 3 days ago I found time to play with it. I sent already a email to GlobalScale and hope for fast reply...If they will not offer any support, I replace the broken PS with new one by myself.

I was trying asterisk on nslu2 with not really good results. Your solution is a great idea and allow people, who doesn't have so deep knowledge about linux, to install such powerful pbx at this "cool;-)" device in easy way.

I read posts from people, who had problems to bring your image to the card...

Here details about my SD card:

hama 8GB class 6 for 30 Euro  Shocked

I put this card, which was originally shipped with vfat partition, to the internal SD slot at my lenovo T61 and done following commands. I use fedora 12:

[root@t61-f12 ~]# mount
/dev/mmcblk0p1 on /media/334C-5097 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=devkit,uid=500,gid=500,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush)

[root@t61-f12 ~]# umount /media/334C-5097

[root@t61-f12 Downloads]# dd if=betaimageDec22-dhcpfixed4G.img of=/dev/mmcblk0

done and have a fun

So anyone using your Sheevas on 220, consider using a 220->120 step down transformer (like travel adapter) - make sure it has a step down transformer and not just physical adapter - I suspect it'll extend the lifetime of your units. You can use a power cord or get the NA prong adapter for the SheevaPlug.

For the really paranoid, alot of people are disconnecting the internal power supply, and using 5V 2A or better DC external adapters. You can find recommendations on the PlugComputer.org forums, just ensure what power source you use produces fully rectified, regulated, and straight line / filtered power.

Myself, I'll continue to run with my units plugged directly into their power bar on 120vac over here in Canada. As well, I have all my equipment on a UPS for added protection and uptime reliability.

I have to raport this...
I didn't get so far any respond from GlobaleScale but I couldn't keep my fingers far from the box. I opened, i measured unstable 2,3-2,8 V . I find in my home depository a 5V and 2A PS.
I cut the cable found ground and prepare already for connect to the sheevaplug. I want to double-check where is ground at plug on motherboard and plugged sheeva again. I pushed hard test leads at 4 cables plug connector on the board and got ....  5V and working box   Shocked .....(fluke?)... after this I connected via terminal to write the config for boot from SD again, then insert SD and now have my previous working PlugPBX installation .... I unplugged power 5 times but still works (4 hours). I don't have good feeling but now I am prepared for ultimately bang  Cool

Cheers
BTW this is NOT howto:  "How to solve the power supply problem on sheevaplug"  Wink
