As has been stated by a couple of people, Asterisk 1.8/Gtalk will work on Dockstar by the Optware route, though.  I verified the procedure and it works!  The installation is pretty standard.  It is also mentioned that FreePBX will also work but I didn't try it.

Still don't know why other linux installation does not work for Dockstar but at least this one works.

That is a guy at ebay selling an A1.8/Google Voice script for $20. Do you think he is taking the Optware route?
How is the performance of A1.8/Gtalk vs. A1.4 with Python script?

Yes.  I certainly think so.  This is the only way make A1.8 work on Dockstar as far as I know.
One obvious difference is that the response is instantanous.  If I dial a US number, I can hear the ring in about 1 seconds.  The actually correct time may depends on the type of phone you are calling.  The quality of the call is also better but I cannot really be certain.  If Google keep the service running like that, you will never go back to python route.

The only thing about Google voice is that they keep changing aspects of SIP usage with it and may reverse access entirely at a future point... alot of variability. Using a GV account and a pay-voip account is likely the best compromise to keep it 'wife friendly'

Never touch Optware before, will I be able to turn my Debian Squeeze torrent box to an Optware based torrent box? I am using rtorrent and sabnzbdplus now. Not really want to switch to other clients.

You can check what's available on optware: http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/cs08q1armel/cross/stable/.
The installation is pretty simple and will not affect your Debian installation (on USB), but you cannot run them at the same time.

Asterisk 1.8.2 was just released a few days (week?) ago, might try and build the latest for arm and see if anything fixed yet... ?
