Not sure about what is the problem.  For DNS server, one check you can do a "ping google.com".  If it works then it is not DNS problem.  If not, put a line in the resolv.conf "nameserver 208.67.222.222" or any other public DNS server.  Just try and see if it works.  Also check if you have put the gateway statement when you change to the static ip address.

Thanks, twinclouds. I fixed the problem by editing resolv.conf.

Try to build the latest (1.8.7.0) but run into problem at step 8.
When I do "make menuconfig", I got:
Code:
CC="cc" CXX="" LD="" AR="" RANLIB="" CFLAGS="" make -C menuselect CONFIGURE_SILENT="--silent" makeopts
make[1]: Entering directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
make[1]: `makeopts' is up to date.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
CC="cc" CXX="" LD="" AR="" RANLIB="" CFLAGS="" make -C menuselect CONFIGURE_SILENT="--silent" nmenuselect
make[1]: Entering directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `nmenuselect'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
CC="cc" CXX="" LD="" AR="" RANLIB="" CFLAGS="" make -C menuselect CONFIGURE_SILENT="--silent" gmenuselect
make[1]: Entering directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `gmenuselect'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
make[1]: Entering directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0'
CC="cc" CXX="" LD="" AR="" RANLIB="" CFLAGS="" make -C menuselect CONFIGURE_SILENT="--silent" makeopts
make[2]: Entering directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
make[2]: `makeopts' is up to date.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0/menuselect'
Terminal must be at least 80 x 27.

menuselect changes NOT saved!
make[1]: Leaving directory `/src/asterisk-1.8.7.0'

Can I do this step another way?
Thanks.

Toolbox123: you simply need to enlarge the window of your SSH terminal.

PIscicelli, Thank you but my build did not work. I found a deb at dslreports and it installed fine on my DockStar.
Will try to rebuild it at another time.

The source code (1.8.9.0) does not have __sparc__ in main/utils.c anymore.

Looks like the ARM bug was fixed in Asterisk 1.8.8.0 and Asterisk 10.0.0:

Cool. With things settling into 'stupid easy' I may get off my butt and finish the all-in-one installer script. Wonder if all the Bluetooth stuff I was trying to get working is also fixed now.. Hmm...

Just have to repair my 3rd sheeva's power supply (replace caps) and get it running again. Had to sacrafice its PS for a failed 'in production' unit in the house.

I haven't touch it for quite sometime, Just realized today that those patches are no longer needed.  I think the PROC=arm is still needed, correct?  I will make edits of the original once get changes.
Thanks for everybody's interest and support.

How come Asterisk still needs to be compiled now? There's no "apt-get" for it since the bug is fixed in the official version now?

Its hit and miss. What debian asterisk package maintainers put in is....varied. I used to run a stock apt-get install of asterisk on debian on my buffalo NAS, but again even then it varied year to year what you'd get. Often, they also don't compile ALL the extensions one might want. So far its best to just compile your own.

I wish it was more consistent.

I am still on the fence, wondering if perhaps FreeSwitch might be a better route, if its more stable from an apt point of view, but I'm hesitant about that too. Still debating alot myself. Glad to see 1.8 is firming up, perhaps its mature enough now on arm to embrace.

I have built the .deb file of asterisk 1.8.  It has been tested by a number of people.  It is very simple.  Just download the .deb file, install a few prerequisite package by apt-get and do dpkg -i asterisk18***.deb.  If you need more information, please read: http://forums.plugpbx.org/index.php/topic,266.0.html.
