Does it matter which version of dahdi is installed?

I am trying to install dahdi on Atom D525 and keep getting errors.
If I am not using dahdi hardware (dahdi_dummy only) does it matter if I just install the apt-get version?
thanks

You need to build from source. Some versions work better than others. I'd suggest latest stable build version.
You don't NEED it, unless you want to host conference calls more or less. I broke mine and have not fixed it in over a year, all our normal home use has zero impact.

I finally got it to install.
Took like 2-3 hours doing make clean, make config, etc.
FOP doesn't work again. Is there any alternatives to FOP that are not dead?
I found HUD lite, but development stopped in 2006 sometime.
I would like an easy way for our small office to be able to park calls and retrieve them without having to remember where we put the call and where to retrieve it from.
Also, are there any guides to setting up the dial plans, planning extensions, etc for a new office installation?
I know how to do a basic dial plan, & add the extensions; but is there any guides to show the best way to make transfers, park calls, etc for a small office environment?
Thanks.

There are tons of guides one is named something like "Asterisk without tears" or "FreePBX without tears" or something like that...
Really, you have to understand the features by reading up on them, then decide what will best fit your needs. Experimentation is one way of looking at it.
For smaller style offices, the shared line aproach often suits employees better then a call parking lot style system, I know asterisk didn't have shared line abilities, and I think its gained that in newer released (or has it?) but that might be something for you to google before moving to far ahead.
There are other FOP style apps out there, including some windows / pc based ones thats free (HUDLite rings a bell for me).
In the past I've deployed small office systems based on standard FreePBX, and call parking lots were standard tools, shared lines were not yet available with asterisk then... but we're talking like 6+ years ago.
